The Miracle Breakfast

OK, so it's not really a miracle but when you start losing that roll around your middle, you'll likely think it may be.

To begin with, it's actually a very simple breakfast probably like the one our great-grandparents ate every morning on the farm. It's simply whole cracked oats soaked in a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and water overnight, 1/3 cup of organic half and half, and two eggs with butter and salt and pepper.

Before I spell out the preparation steps, here's the theory of why you'll suddenly lose the fat around your middle and probably drop at least a pant size like I did.

After not eating for 6-10 hours of sleeping, the body is hungry for three things--protein, fat and carbohydrates. The typical breakfast is high in carbs and low in protein. I'm talking about something like shredded wheat and soymilk for instance with some honey (my typical breakfast for longer than I can remember). Unfortunately, there's very little fat in it and it elevates your blood sugar abnormally high. Since the body is not getting any fat, it believes that it is in starvation mode and resolves to store fat at the next opportunity (such as lunch when you have French fries with a burger). In addition, fat is used to store toxins in and it won't matter how many sit ups you do, your body won't release that fat because it has poisons in it.

By providing your body with whole cracked organic oats, you are giving it a very slow burning carbohydrate that also contains a lot of fiber. Fiber is well known to improve digestion and transient time as well as give you the feeling of being full.

The organic half and half is a very easy to digest source of fat without any transfatty acids. It also is not rancid which most oils used in cooking are these days.

DO NOT add a sweetener to this cereal! A cup of oats prepared this way will seem like it is more than you can eat without the sugar. This is your body telling you that you that it is having sugar withdrawals. In time, you'll feel like it's plenty sweet and quick to chew up and swallow.

The importance of certified organic can't be underemphasized. It is crucial to eliminate toxins from your diet so that your body doesn't resort to putting them in to fatty tissues for its safety.

Now onto the eggs. Soft boil a couple of them and eat them 15-20 minutes after eating the oatmeal and half and half.

My naturopath calls this the 'complete package' and it's got everything you need.

I promise that you will not be hungry for at least 3-4 hours and you will not experience that desperate 11 am need for something to eat. Lunch will be a relaxing experience and you'll eat what you need without packing it in to make up for what was missing before.

The Recipe
Take the organic whole cracked oats (live food by the way) and put a cup of them in a tumbler or small bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice (get the organically grown lemons to use here). Add water so that it comes to the top of the oats and soak overnight. The lemon juice releases enzymes and in a sense begins to predigest the oats for easy assimilation.

Put the oats in a double boiler and heat them up. Don't use a microwave oven because that kills nutrients and the living components in the oats.

Put a 1/3 to a 1/2 a cup of half and half in a Pyrex dish or measuring cup and put it in the bottom of the double boiler pan while you're serving the oats into a dish. By the time you're ready (30-45 seconds) the half and half will be nice and warm and not cool down the oats.

Soft boil the eggs and serve with organic butter. Use sea or mineral salt and a good quality pepper. Salsa would work also.
